Quake Wars Linux Demo Released
We told you over the weekend that the demo for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars would be released soon and then this morning passed along word that it would indeed be released today. Well, now it's available from id Software Zerowing.
This demo only contains one demo campaign but does support LAN and Internet game-play. This demo also lacks the "timeDemo" support for benchmarking. Therefore, we will not be delivering any benchmarks today. However, we will say that with using NVIDIA's GeForce 7 or GeForce 8 hardware it had ran well for us internally during the internal beta. Using ATI's Radeon X1000 and HD 2000 series graphics cards with the fglrx 8.41 driver and later have also played great on ET:QW. Another thing to keep in mind is that Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is threaded well and will really shine on multi-core machines.
Unfortunately, the full Linux client for this game isn't available today. However, we imagine it will be available soon now that the demo is out there. If you try out the demo, be sure to share your thoughts in the Phoronix Forums. The Unreal Tournament 3 demo for Linux is also due out very soon. This is a great time for Linux gamers!
