With the push towards Wayland and other various advancements being desired out of KDE's compositing window manager, Martin Gräßlin is joining Blue Systems to further work on KWin.

Beginning a new blog post by Martin, "Very soon after joining the KWin development team almost five years ago, I realized that KWin would need at least one full time developer. It is one of the most important parts for the user experience of the KDE Plasma Workspaces and we have seen quite often that important changes for the user experience could not be implemented due to lack of manpower."

Starting in January he will be joining Blue Systems to work on KWin. "I’m really excited about this new possibility and are looking forward to it. I want to use this chance to work on bringing KWin to the world of Wayland."

He's also encouraging other open-source developers to contribute to KDE's KWin window manager. "With the upcoming required changes like Qt 5 and Wayland the need for developers is increasing. I think it’s currently a wonderful time to join the KWin development. It’s a very interesting and challenging work and working on KWin means working on the future of the free desktop."

Blue Systems is the company that's now backing the Kubuntu project and supports other KDE initiatives like Firefox KDE, Rekonq, Netrunner, kde-gtk-config, and much more.
