Wayland 1.12 Planned For Release In September
When announcing the release yesterday of Wayland/Weston 1.11, Bryce Harrington at Samsung also laid out the release plans for Wayland 1.12.
Wayland 1.12 and the adjoining Weston 1.12 reference compositor are planned for release in September. Per the plans laid out by Bryce, v1.12 development is now immediately open. The first development milestone would be Wayland 1.12 Alpha in mid-August, Wayland 1.12 Beta in early September, Wayland 1.12-RC1 in mid-September, and to release Wayland 1.12.0 by the end of September.
It will be interesting to see what materializes for Wayland/Weston over the next three months. There continues to be a flow of patches on Wayland-devel for the Weston compositor. One big open question is whether in time for the next release the EGLStreams vs. GBM debate will be decided, a.k.a. NVIDIA vs. the Wayland community in their driver approach.
Stay tuned to Phoronix for Wayland/Weston 1.12 development coverage over the next three months.
