Linux 3.18-rc7: Linux 3.18 Final Likely In One Week
Linus Torvalds is looking at officially releasing the Linux 3.18 kernel in one week.
Linus did his 3.18-rc7 release just minutes ago. Activity surrounding Linux 3.18 is beginning to calm down although the nasty lockup issue still has yet to be solved. Linus noted in today's announcement that the lockups appear either due to watchdog and possibly RCU code -- and that the issue also still seems present for Linux 3.17.
With activity settling down otherwise and the Christmas holidays coming up, Linus is looking at releasing Linux 3.18 in one week. If he delays longer, the 3.19 merge window could be complicated by the holidays that would result in being quite some time before seeing the Linux 3.19 kernel.
Torvalds' 3.18-rc7 announcement can be read on the kernel mailing list. The Linux 3.18 release should be a nice holiday delight with it bringing many new features.
