With the imminent release of Qt 5.7 expected, this updated tool-kit release will bring a new Qt Wayland Compositor API in tech preview form.

Paul Olav Tvete of The Qt Company has written a blog post today about the tech preview of this new Qt Wayland Compositor API for Qt 5.7.

This new API makes it possible to write an entire Wayland compositor in just Qt's QML mark-up. This new API is also intended to be easier to understand, there's a completely reworked extension support, multi-screen support was added, XDG-Shell support is now present, and there are other improvements.

For more information on the new Qt Wayland Compositor API as well as the code to an extremely basic QML-written Wayland compositor, read today's blog post over at blog.qt.io.
