Phoenix Strikes HyperSpace Deal With ASUS
ASUS was the first company to ship SplashTop, an embedded instant-on Linux environment, on any of its products. They began by offering SplashTop on select ASUS motherboards, then it turned into ASUS notebooks, and then to many more ASUS products. However, Phoenix Technologies has now wooed ASUS into shipping HyperSpace on their notebooks.
On the day HyperSpace officially launched we delivered a full in-depth review of this Phoenix Technologies product that aims to compete with SplashTop. It's a lightweight Linux operating system embedded into the firmware of the system or on a hidden disk partition and allows the users to quickly access a Firefox-based web browser. Acer and other OEMs are beginning to partner with Phoenix to offer HyperSpace on their mobile-oriented products, but pulling in ASUS is quite significant considering their involvement with DeviceVM's SplashTop.
The press release regarding this strategic move can be read on the Phoenix Technologies web-site.
