Civilization: Beyond Earth Likely To Drop Intel/AMD Linux Support
There's a new blog post out by Aspyr Media who has been doing the OS X and Linux porting work for the Sid Meier game. In today's update, Russ Looney shares that they've been running into graphical problems with Intel and AMD GPUs on Linux. It's not a performance problem but of incorrect rendering.
Looney noted, "we’re seeing some graphical problems with Intel and ATI cards on Linux. The performance is good (i.e. no slowdown or chugging frame rates), but there’s still lots of graphical tearing and other anomalies that make it practically unplayable. Though not official yet, it’s likely we’ll drop support for Intel and ATI graphics cards on Linux platforms prior to the game’s launch on Linux."
There's not yet any firm release date for the Linux version but there's been some hope we'd see it out in December. However, it looks like the Linux build of Civilization: Beyond Earth for SteamOS and Linux is still several weeks away. More details via this blog post.
