TOSHIBA 128GB Q-Series SATA 3.0 SSD Linux Tests
Up for some quick Linux benchmarking this Friday afternoon are tests of the Toshiba Q Series HDTS212XZSTA 128GB SATA III Solid State Drive. This SSD drive has been pitted against five other HDD/SSD disk drives on Ubuntu Linux for some interesting performance tests.
Disk drive testing at Phoronix isn't too common at Phoronix (aside from our common Linux file-system testing) compared to our graphics hardware/driver articles, but it's always interesting to check out the latest SSDs. Haven picked up the TOSHIBA HDTS212XZSTA recently from a major Internet retailer for about $80 USD compared to its $100~110 USD price-tag for this 128GB SSD, I ran some benchmarks today on the disk drive.
The Toshiba 128GB HDTS212XZSTA SSD is a 2.5-inch drive and claims sequential write speeds up to 501MB/s and sequential reads at 552MB/s.
The disk drives I tested the Toshiba SSD on Ubuntu Linux under today were on the same system and configuration as the recent Intel SSD Linux benchmarking. The drives included a Western Digital WD1600JS-00M 7200RPM HDD and then the 64GB OCZ Agility, 60GB OCZ Vertex 2, 240GB OCZ Vertex 3, and 120GB Intel SSDSC2CW12 SSDs.
All these drives were tested on an Intel Core i7 4770K system running Xubuntu 13.10 with the Linux 3.11 kernel and all disk drives were formatted to EXT4. The benchmark results today are mainly being put out for reference purposes and all of the system results and logs can be found in the OpenBenchmarking.org result file. You can compare your own Linux system's disk drive performance against the assortment of disk benchmark results by installing the Phoronix Test Suite and running phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1308309-SO-TOSHIBASS54.
Enjoy these test results for those interested in a high performance Serial ATA 3.0 SSD that runs well on Linux and doesn't cost a lot. Any additional questions or comments about the tests can be directed to the forums or @MichaelLarabel on Twitter.
