Intel 520 Series SSD Benchmarks On Ubuntu Linux
For those curious about the performance of Intel's 520 Series Serial ATA 3.0 solid-state drives under Linux, here are a couple open-source disk performance benchmarks comparing the 120GB Intel SSDSC2CW12 to a few other HDD/SSDs.
With the System76 Gazelle Professional laptop that's in our labs for a few weeks of benchmarking, the storage is backed by an Intel 520 Series SSD. Not having many SSD drives around to benchmark and being curious about the performance of this SATA 3.0 drive, I took it out last night to see how its performance was to some other disk drives.
With disk drives not being a huge focus at Phoronix and not having too many of them on hand, the quick comparison consisted of a Western Digital WD1600JS-00M 7200RPM HDD and then the following SSDs: 64GB OCZ Agility, 60GB OCZ Vertex 2, and a 240GB OCZ Vertex 3. All of these drives were formatted to EXT4 and benchmarked from Xubuntu 13.10 with the Linux 3.11 kernel while being connected to an Intel Core i7 4770K "Haswell" test system.
The 520 Series isn't Intel's latest-generation SSD with already having out newer models, but these results are simply being published for those that may run into this SSD or are simply curious about its performance. Thanks to the Phoronix Test Suite and OpenBenchmarking.org, it's also just as easy to run your own disk performance comparison against our published data by simply running phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1308286-SO-LINUX311D79.
Enjoy; additional system information is available from its result file.
