It was this week three years ago when there was the big Steam Linux reveal when I was over at Valve HQ learning from Gabe Newell about their Steam Linux client plans, their ambitions for a Steam Linux distribution on consoles (now known as SteamOS), and much more.

If you weren't reading Phoronix three years ago, you can go back and checkout that article for the exclusive details from the time.

It was so exciting that I did a big beer delivery to Valve as compliments from Phoronix readers and the Linux community. That summer there was lots of exciting Valve Linux progress and that's when they started finding the value of open-source drivers.

Fast forward three years, there's now more than 1,100 games on Steam for Linux!

Going out this year there's Source 2 to look forward to seeing, Steam Machines and the Steam Controller expected for release before year end, and SteamOS should be stabilized. There's also going to be the release of the open-source Intel Vulkan driver financed by Valve for as soon as the Khronos Group releases the first official Vulkan specification. What else are you looking for out of Valve on Linux this year? Let us know in the forums.
