Fedora 13 Is Set To Premiere Today

Following a last minute setback, Red Hat is set to release Fedora 13 this morning. Fedora 13 integrates many package updates and new features for this first major update to Red Hat's community operating system for 2010.

Some of our favorite attributes about Fedora 13 is the easy availability of the Nouveau Gallium3D driver (and the classic Gallium3D Mesa driver for NVIDIA's very old hardware), initial support for Btrfs system rollbacks, and its bleeding-edge X.Org/Linux graphics stack. Fedora 13 is shipping with X.Org Server 1.8, the Linux 2.6.33 kernel, GCC 4.4, KDE 4.4, and GNOME 2.30, among many other updated desktop and server packages.

Fedora 13 is codenamed Goddard while Fedora 14 is already being called Laughlin. Fedora 14 will be released in late October or November. Fedora 13 will be made available for download shortly at FedoraProject.org. It should not come as a surprise, but soon we will have benchmarks from Fedora 13 final.
