The KDE community has today announced the release of KDE 4.1, which comes as the first major update to the KDE 4 code-base. KDE 4.0 was introduced earlier this year at a Google-hosted KDE release event. KDE 4.1 offers a number of improvements to Plasma, brings the KDE PIM (Personal Information Management) to the version 4 code-base, and many other new features and improved applications. The KDE 4.1 release announcement can be read at KDE.org.

The first minor update to KDE 4.1, KDE 4.1.1, is planned for release on September 3rd with two more point releases before ending out the year (KDE 4.1 release schedule). Meanwhile, the next major KDE release (v4.2) is planned to arrive on January 27, 2009. Four development releases will come prior to the final release (KDE 4.2 release schedule).
