The GMA-500 DRM driver is for providing a basic display kernel driver for the Intel Atom Socs with the graphics cores being sourced from Imagination Technologies and their PowerVR SGX IP. The graphics stack isn't fully open-source and this DRM driver only came after the fact, but with the GMA-500/600 hardware still being widely used, there's still demand for this DRM/KMS driver.
The first DRM pull request for the Linux 3.12 kernel of GMA-500 driver changes has been pulled into drm-next.
The GMA-500 DRM driver changes are mostly about unifying and cleaning up the driver code, but supposedly there's still some more changes in the pipe for Linux 3.12 to be merged later.
