Sound Updates To Be Played In Linux 3.10 Kernel
Beyond knowing about the graphics driver changes coming for the Linux 3.10 kernel, the ALSA/sound kernel driver changes for the soon-to-open merge window are becoming more clear too.
Among the highlights for the work being queued within Takashi Iwai's for-next sound kernel Git tree are:
- The ALSA compression support now supports capturing streams rather than just compressed playback. (Also see ALSA's TinyCompress.)
- Two formats for the Direct Stream Digital (DSD) pulse-density encoding format have been added for ALSA.
- The ASoC area has new codec drivers for the AK5385 and TAS5086. The ASoC support also has new multi-platform ARM clean-ups, DAPM performance optimizations, DMA Engine integration clean-ups, and random other work.
- The very common Intel HDA ALSA driver has received a handful of fixes.
- Various new hardware quirks added.
From quickly scanning through the ALSA developer mailing list archives and the Git log those seem to be the most prominent changes as far as sound will be affected in the Linux 3.10 kernel, but more details will come following the announcement of the Linux 3.9 kernel.
