Wayland: GBM Changes, Triple Buffering Support
Ander Conselvan de Oliveira, one of the Nokia developers in Helsinki that joined Intel and is now part of Intel's Wayland team, published a new patch-set this morning to the wayland-devel mailing list.
The patches provide a new prototype implementation of moving the DRM compositor to a new gbm_surface interface so that the EGL implementation can handle buffer management. The last pach also adds triple buffering support to the DRM platform in the egl_dri2 driver.
There's also been many other patches (largely from Intel developers) floating around for Wayland in recent weeks as can be found from the mailing list archive.
What's also interesting is part of what Ander said in his email announcing the patch-set. "So, in London we discussed moving the drm compositor to a new gbm_surface interface." Evidently there was some sort of Wayland development event going on in London. I haven't heard of such event taking place up until now nor have I been able to locate any public information on the matter, but it's good to see Intel taking Wayland quite seriously.
We should hear more about the Wayland Display Server at FOSDEM in Brussels come February.
