openSUSE 12.1 Release Candidate Arrives

openSUSE 12.1 RC offers up a horde of improvements and fixes for this next major release of the German Linux operating system that's due out next month. The openSUSE 12.1 release is based upon the Linux 3.1 kernel, supports Google's Go programming language, offers up KDE Plasma Workspace 4.7, and optionally supports GNOME 3.2. This first SUSE 12.x release also finally switches over to the GRUB2 boot-loader as well as systemd.
Among the original innovations in openSUSE 12.1 is Snapper, which is an openSUSE tool to be paired with the Btrfs file-system for viewing differences between versions of files on the system when Btrfs snapshots occur. Other openSUSE 12.1 features can be found out from the openFATE Feature Tracking.
The openSUSE 12.1 Release Candidate announcement can be found at news.opensuse.org. The openSUSE 12.1 official release is expected on the 16th of November. For any other SUSE developers in Nürnberg or Phoronix readers there, I'll be there a week later (24 November) celebrating the release with the defunct RadeonHD developers, probably at the Gregor Samsa bar.
