Red Hat Planning Fresh Work On Linux Battery Life, Testers Needed

Among the improvements he is targeting is to enable more runtime power management tunables and one of his first areas of focus is on SATA Link Power Management.
Recently there has been work on a new Link Power Management policy of "med_power_with_dipm" for systems that otherwise have issues with the existing min_power policy. In these cases, "issues" can mean data corruption and so Hans is hoping this new med_power_with_dipm will be beneficial for more laptops running Linux.
This kernel patch implements the new policy. Hans de Goede has also spun a Fedora kernel for those wishing to test it out.
