Android Support For Intel's ANV Vulkan Driver
Chad Versace, the former Intel Linux graphics driver developer now working at Google, has posted a set of 23 patches for bringing Android support to the Intel open-source Vulkan driver.
Before anyone thinks it's for Intel to re-enter the mobile space with Atom smartphones or the like, their intended use-case for this Intel Vulkan driver support on Android is for using Intel-powered Chromebooks for running Android applications.
The ARC++ runtime for running an Android container on Chrome OS for running Android applications can now use Vulkan in conjunction with this supported driver.
The 23 patches introduce about one thousand lines of new code and make the changes necessary for supporting this Vulkan driver on Android, including the VK_ANDROID_native_buffer extension. Details on Mesa-dev.
