An Intel IVI system is needed to run MeeGo IVI and the in-vehicle system must also not be using ATI, NVIDIA, or even some Intel graphics processors as they go fully unsupported in this IVI release. Some of the features for MeeGo 1.0 IVI include being based upon the now aging Linux 2.6.33 kernel, a customized home screen and taskbar for launching and managing applications, a simple navigation applet to serve as an example, a simple Bluetooth-enabled dialer application, a user-interface for managing network connections, the Qt-based Fennec web-browser, and integrated packages from open source automotive projects.
While vehicles are the obvious focus for MeeGo's In-Vehicle Infotainment systems, Intel also aspires to see this installed within "trucks, planes, and buses." The MeeGo 1.0 IVI announcement with installation instructions can be found at MeeGo.com. Besides MeeGo for netbooks, IVI, and phones/handsets, there is also MeeGo Connected TV to be coming soon.
