Based upon id Software's Quake 4 Linux release, we thought the Enemy Territory: Quake Wars release was just days away. However, Timothee Besset (id's Linux guy) has posted in an a ET:QW community update that the Linux client is coming in "a few weeks." This time now is spent on optimizing the client code. Specifically, one of the areas that he'll be working on (since he talked about it in the private beta) is with the MegaTextures. Timothee had also added the "performance has been good on both the NVIDIA and ATI graphics cards." When it comes to the Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Linux server, which has been available for a few days now, is more popular than the Windows server build with more than 1,300 servers. It's unfortunate the Linux client isn't coming out sooner, but this will allow AMD time to push out the ATI fglrx 8.42 driver release that is focused on improving pre-R600 hardware.
