New Features Coming For Qt 5.4
Qt 5.3 was released back in May (while yesterday marked the Qt 5.3.1 release). Qt 5.4 thus has been an active development target for many weeks now and it's beginning to show with the development branch locking in early August.
Heikkinen Jani of Digia reminded Qt developers today the plan is to lock the development branch for Qt 5.4 on 8 August, at which point the features for this next tool-kit update should be ready.
For those curious about the upcoming Qt 5.4 features, there's an initial list at the Qt Project Wiki. However, this Qt 5.4 feature list is far from being complete... We'll cover more of the Qt 5.4 improvements when the release nears, but some of the currently listed items include:
- Support for Qt's OpenGL context to adopt exisiting native OpenGL contexts from EGL or GLX, etc. The aim of this is to allow improved interoperability between Qt and outside software components like game engines.
- Improved OpenGL ES 3.0/3.1 support.
- The QQuickRenderControl interface was made public.
- Support for BlueZ 5.
- Support for low-energy Bluetooth.
