Video: An Interesting Wayland Tech Discussion
For those Linux enthusiasts interested in the Wayland Display Server, here's a video recording of an interesting technical discussion worth watching.
This video recording is not the FOSDEM 2012 keynote by Kristian Høgsberg where he did a fluffy overview of Wayland targeted at the general Linux audience, with the only real new information being their stable release plans for this year, but rather this was one of two technical discussions that happened a day later within the X.Org/Wayland development room.
The Wayland talk shown on this page is the "Wayland Toolkit Q&A" with Kristian. There was also a how-to session for writing your own Wayland compositor, which I'm still uploading and will be sharing on Phoronix later.
In this "Wayland Toolkit Q&A" discussion, Kristian goes over his reasoning behind client side decorations for Wayland, cursors, tabs in the tool-bar and other crazy possible design elements, "spinning beach balls", full-screen gaming with Wayland, the flicker-free design, keyboard mapping, window hints, input grabbing, and other unique elements of Wayland.
