Following a successful Kickstarter campaign where the KDE-aligned Krita program raised €30,520, the first beta of Krita 2.9 Animation Edition is now available.

The big features to this new addition of Krita are animation and instant preview support. There's new dockers for animation, timeline, and onion skins. The new instant preview mode requres OpenGL 3.0+ support. Krita 2.9 Animation Edition should be much faster thanks to better utilizing the GPU and changes to Krita's rendering process.

The stable version of Krita Animation Edition will be based on Krita 3.0 while this beta release is based on Krita 2.9. More details from the Krita.org blog.
