Unreal Engine 4.14 Ships With Better Vulkan Support
Epic Games announced the release of Unreal Engine 4.14 today as the newest version of this incredibly powerful, cross-platform game engine.
Highlights for Unreal Engine 4.14 include the introduction of a forward-shading renderer with MSAA that's designed for VR use-cases, contact shadows, automatic LOD generation, precomputed lighting scenarios, improved per-pixel translucent lighting, full-resolution skin shading, NVIDIA Ansel support, and a variety of other renderer/visual improvements.
Unreal Engine 4.14 also upgrades to PhysX 3.4 and has a range of other improvements for UE4 game developers, including lots of work on the Unreal Editor.
Improved Vulkan support in Unreal Engine 4.14 is for Android and is considered production-ready for shipping Android games. Changes include Android 7 Vulkan support, rendering fixes, support for falling back to OpenGL ES when not on a supported Vulkan device, and more. Unfortunately nothing about any official Windows/Linux Vulkan support.
