Unreal Engine 4.12 Released With Mobile Vulkan, Improved VR, Better Reflections
The latest version of Unreal Engine 4 is now available to game developers.
Building off the work previously talked about, Unreal Engine 4.12 has turned into a massive release. Some of the highlights for Unreal Engine 4.12 after the past few months of work by Epic Games and the community includes:
- Sequencer, their new real-time cinematics and animation tool.
- The new "VR Editor" mode is in a preview state for editing objects in virtual reality.
- DayDream VR platform support.
- OSVR AR/VR support.
- The engine now supports real-time planar reflections and other high quality reflection improvements.
- The Vulkan renderer support is in a preview state and currently targeting only mobile devices running UE4.
- Many other mobile improvements besides having the Vulkan renderer: high-quality post-processing, improved shadows, GPU particles.
- Grass and foliage scalability system support.
- Audio localization support is available in preview form.
- Various logging/crash improvements for UE4 on Linux.
