Mesa 11.1 Will Likely Support The Raspberry Pi 3D Support In Linux 4.5
With the upcoming Linux 4.5 kernel cycle there's going to be open-source 3D acceleration for the Raspberry Pi via the VC4 DRM driver that was originally added for Linux 4.4
In Linux 4.4 there wasn't 3D support, but that's changing with Linux 4.5. However, besides needing the Linux 4.5+ kernel, you also need a supported VC4 Gallium3D driver. While there's been the VC4 Gallium3D driver developed in mainline Mesa over the past many months, the branched code currently present for the imminent Mesa 11.1 release doesn't support the DRM driver as set to be shipped in Linux 4.5.
Due to changes to the driver's kernel ABI interface, some modifications are needed to the Mesa 11.1 VC4 driver. Eric Anholt is proposing the changes so that this Mesa 11.1 stable series will support the 3D support. While the code has yet to land, it looks like it will be accepted and isn't being opposed by other upstream Mesa developers.
