Fedora 14 Officially Released With New Features

"It's here! It's here! It's really here!" Jared Smith, the Fedora Project Leader, has just announced the release of Fedora 14 (a.k.a. Laughlin).

Fedora 14 brings Spice (the Simple Protocol for Independent ComputingEnvironments) for enhanced remote desktop capabilities, D language support, an upgrade to Python 2.7, support for the Amazon Elastic Computing Cloud (EC2) service, a virtualization technology preview test repository, and other features (a list can be found on the Fedora Wiki). This Red Hat distribution is running with KDE 4.5, GNOME 2.32, the Linux 2.6.35 kernel, X.Org Server 1.9, and Mesa 7.9, among the notable packages.

The Fedora 14 release announcement can be read on the Fedora mailing list with download links to all available flavors. Fedora 14 is available for i386 and x86_64 architectures in the customary GNOME Desktop LiveCD, Fedora 14 KDE LiveCD, Fedora 14 LXDE LiveCD, Fedora 14 XFCE LiveCD, and a Fedora DVD. The next release is Fedora 15 and barring any delays it will be here next April.

Benchmarks of Fedora 14 against Ubuntu 10.10 and others will come next week, as this week I'll be in San Diego.
