The final release of GNOME 2.28.0 is scheduled to come on the 23rd of September, which is the desktop environment that will be found in the forthcoming releases of Fedora 12, Ubuntu 9.10, and others. After this release the bulk of work by GNOME developers will then turn to GNOME 3.0.
