Linux 2.6.29-rc7 Kernel Released

This month we will see the release of the Linux 2.6.29 kernel. This updated kernel will bring kernel mode-setting support on Intel hardware, the Btrfs file-system, the mainlining of SquashFS, improved EXT4 support, and other new features. If you are interested in helping to test this new kernel before it goes gold, the Linux 2.6.29-rc7 kernel was pushed out last night.

In the Linux 2.6.29-rc7 kernel are new drivers for an ATL1c network adapter and a FireDTV DVB receiver. The rest of the changes are small (mostly regression fixes) and scattered throughout the millions of lines of code known as the Linux kernel.

The release announcement and short change-log for Linux 2.6.29-rc7 can be read at LKML.org. While the Linux 2.6.29 kernel is getting fit, Linus still expects at least one more release candidate before this kernel is officially released.
