cURL 7.40 Released & It Now Supports The SMB/CIFS Protocol
Version 7.40.0 of cURL was released today, the command-line program and library for downloading data over a variety of protocols.
On top of shipping 120 known bug-fixes for this new version, cURL 7.40 adds support for Windows SSPI-based authentication to http_digest, build targets for Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 and newer, the SSL code now supports the PEM format for public key pinning, support for HTTP over Unix domain sockets, and support for the GSS-API based Kerberos V5 authentication.
Perhaps the most welcome addition to cURL 7.40 for some users is support for the SMB/CIFS protocol. CIFS is the Common Internet File-System and is an enhanced version of SMB used since Windows 2000. Finally with cURL 7.40 is support for the SMB/CIFS protocol for downloading files with curl from Windows shares.
