APITest Can Now Be Run Inside The Phoronix Test Suite
APITest is the latest open-source graphics application incorporated within the Phoronix Test Suite and OpenBenchmarking.org for carrying out OpenGL benchmarks on Linux systems.
APITest is the open-source test developed by John McDonald, the engineer formerly employed by NVIDIA and is now working for Valve. McDonald wrote APITest to micro-benchmark OpenGL and Direct3D when he was working on the Intel/AMD/NVIDIA joint presentation of working to reduce OpenGL driver overhead.
Now that APITest is in good shape on Linux systems that have OpenGL 4 support (thus really limited to the proprietary AMD and NVIDIA Linux graphics drivers right now), it's been added to OpenBenchmarking.org. The test profile (raw contents) is quite straight-forward thanks to the clean and easily-automated APITest for benchmarking.
Thus for Phoronix Test Suite users, it's now a simple matter of running phoronix-test-suite benchmark apitest to tap this latest OpenGL benchmark along with our hundreds of other tests that can be driven via our open-source benchmarking software. Some recent results from APITest were shared in this blog post by Michael Marks while we'll have some other interesting tests in the days ahead.
In related news, Phoronix Test Suite 5.2 is planned for release this coming week in celebration of Phoronix turning ten years old and six years since the release of Phoronix Test Suite 1.0.
