PiTiVi Alpha Powered By GStreamer Services, GTK3

The Pitivi 0.91 Alpha release was tagged on Sunday and with it is a major rework of the entire Pitivi architecture, which is now powered by the GStreamer Editing Services and supports GTK+3 for its tool-kit.

GStreamer Editing Services (GES) is a cross-platform library that provides a complete SDK for producing a non-linear video editor and interfaces with GStreamer and its GNonLin plug-in. The Gstreamer Editing Services layer is able to solve many architectural issues with Pitivi, vastly simplifies the video editor with many lines of code being removed, and has better performance.

With this big rewrite, Pitivi 0.91 is ported to the GStreamer 1.x APIs and has also been ported to use the GTK+ 3.x tool-kit.The editor's timeline also now uses Clutter for rendering rather than GooCanvas.

With the massively reworked code, there's said to be hundreds of bug-fixes, many new features, extensive user-interface polishing, and many other changes.

This new alpha release of the open-source video editing application is codenamed Charming Defects and more details on it can be found via the updated NEWS release file.
