MythTV 0.25 Will Finally Be Released Next Month
After quite a long development cycle, which saw MythTV forked into a new project called Torc by one of its lead developers, the upstream MythTV 0.25 release is finally becoming a reality.
The MythTV 0.25 beta release has been made available to those Linux HTPC users wishing to test out this open-source software. The release announcement acknowledges that it's finally available at long last and that it's the first stage towards the full release. The expected availability of MythTV 0.25 is expected for the 2nd of April.
As I wrote about in early January, there's many changes to MythTV 0.25. Among the most promising work to this major MythTV update is VA-API video acceleration support, a new MythTV Services API, HTTPC live streaming support, HDMI CEC capabilities, 3D support, IPv6 handling, Apple AirTunes/AirPlay support, E-ACS/TrueHD/DTS-HD digital pass-through, initial animation support within the MythUI, and much more. There's also initial GLSL 1.0 video rendering support and basic OpenGL ES 2.0 (GLES2.0) support.
With the VA-API support coming along side the already existing VDPAU video acceleration, the MythTV developers have done away with XvMC and other less-than-optimal means of video acceleration.
The complete run-down on MythTV 0.25 features can be found out from the beta release notes.
