While the Radeon DRM driver has had support for doing GPU resets in case of hangs, the AMDGPU DRM driver for newer graphics processors haven't had this feature.

Alex Deucher today published seven patches for adding GPU reset support to the AMDGPU driver. So far this PCI configuration reset support has been tested via debugfs but there isn't yet any lockup detection in the driver for being able to automatically reset the GPU when encountering any hangs.

More details via this patch series. Hopefully the reset support will get squared away in time for the Linux 4.6 kernel cycle.
