What's Up With TransGaming's GameTree Linux?

LINUX GAMING
At the beginning of January, TransGaming rolled out GameTree Linux. GameTree Linux is basically the successor to their Cedega Technology that in turn formerly was known as WineX and was based upon an early X11-licensed version of Wine. Cedega hasn't been updated in a long time prior to this announcement and its support has fallen behind that of CodeWeaver's CrossOver software and upstream Wine in many regards, but unfortunately, GameTree Linux hasn't yet improved the situation at all.

TransGaming was supposed to launch their Cedega-powered Linux desktop tools in Q1'2011 GameTree Developer Program, but it doesn't appear if that has happened as we haven't even been able to track down any Linux publishers who've actually joined the program. They also haven't launched their "Linux desktop technology" for their former Cedega Gaming Service subscribers.

So what has TransGaming been up to? Well, yesterday they announced KULA BLOX (press release) as a new multi-platform game created by its studio division. KULA BLOX is meant to be a family game and by multi-platform they mean iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Mac, PC, and GameTree TV Smart TV Gaming Platform. They don't even mention Linux.

"KULA BLOX will be an animal-themed arcade-style game that allows a broader audience of non-traditional gamers to have immersive, but still "snack" gaming experiences. The KULA BLOX property is designed to become a franchise that spans across multiple future titles with KULA BLOX being the first. When paired with the lucrative in-game micro-transactions and content updates, the result will be a game that maximizes both profitability and long-term playability."

Last year Adobe also licensed TransGaming's SwiftShader Technology. But in terms of any Linux work going on at TransGaming, there doesn't appear to be much and they haven't responded with any comments regarding Linux happenings. They seem to be more interested in GameTree TV, which is using their platform to stream games on television sets.
