Kristian Rietveld, a long-time GTK+ developer, has reported on additional rendering clean-up work being completed. We've already reported on most of the rendering clean-up being completed and that this tool-kit is using Cairo more for drawing, among other improvements to be found within GTK+ 3.0 when released next year. Thanks to all of this work, the very latest GTK+ code is running rather well on Mac OS X with Quartz, among other software configurations.
Kristian's blog post can be read at GNOME.org.
