KDE
This week's article in The Road To KDE 4 is about Linux hardware in KDE, which of course we take a great deal of interest in. KDE 4.0 will feature a new project called Solid. KDE's Solid is a Qt/KDE API that interfaces with such low-level components as HAL. Solid can access device information but leaves much of the grunt-work to HAL (HAL is the only back-end supported at this time). Solid itself is split into several domains such as for power management and removable devices. More information is available from KDE.News.
