NVIDIA Puts Out 331.17 Beta Linux GPU Driver
NVIDIA released this week the 331.17 Beta Linux graphics driver that adds support for several new GPUs, introduces a new NVIDIA Unified Memory kernel module, and has a number of bug-fixes.
The new support found in the NVIDIA 331.17 Beta include the Quadro K510M, Quadro K610M, Quadro K1100M, Quadro K2100M, Quadro K3100M, Quadro K4100M, Quadro K5100M, GeForce 705A, and GeForce GT 730A.
The new NVIDIA Unified Kernel Memory module is a new kernel module for a Unified Memory feature to be exposed by an upcoming release of NVIDIA's CUDA. The new module is nvidia-uvm.ko and will allow for a unified memory space between the GPU and system RAM.
The fixes found in the release include a configuration file issue fix, deferred initialization of libselinux to workaround an issue when the SELinux library might not be available yet, and a bug that could lead to memory exhaustion for OpenGL applications/games on 32-bit Linux.
