The latest XDC2012 happenings worth mentioning is that DRI3 is now being talked about right now. Direct Rendering Infrastructure 2 is just about four years old, but we may be seeing DRI3 in the near future.
The biggest problem with DRI2 is that when windows are being resized, the X.Org Server has to create a new back-buffer and the application needs to known to draw to this new back-buffer, etc. "It's a synchronization disaster," as said by Keith Packard today from the SUSE office hosting XDC2012.
Other ideas brought up include using DMA-BUF on-the-wire, support for multiple file descriptors, and much more.
More information on DRI3 once this discussion finishes today and the recorded video has been uploaded. The discussion is likely to continue on the mailing list in the coming weeks/months.
