LILO Boot-Loader Development To Cease At End Of Year
While most of you probably haven't used the LILO bootloader in years in place of GRUB(2), the developer of "LInux LOader" intends to cease development at the end of the year.
This summer's intern, Eric Griffith, pointed out today an undated message on the LILO homepage about the bootloader project planning to end development at the end of 2015.
The message reads, "NOTE: I plan to finish development of LILO at 12/2015 because of some limitations (e.g. with BTFS, GPT, RAID). If someone want to develop this nice software further, please let me know ..."
The last LILO release was in 2014 and since then its mailing list is rarely active and there hasn't been anything evident going on in upstream Git.
While it's possible someone might pickup development of LILO, it would be a bit hard to justify given that it's years behind GRUB2 in functionality, unless desiring a BSD-licensed legacy bootloader rather than the GPL-licensed GRUB.
