GNOME's GTK+ Finally Getting Close To Dropping Windows XP Support
GNOME/GTK+ developers are finally preparing themselves to drop support for Microsoft Windows XP.
While Microsoft no longer offers public support for Windows XP and most modern software has done away with XP support, GNOME's tool-kit continues to support Windows going back to XP. It's been discussed before about dropping XP and this discussion has resurrected once again.
There's this mailing list thread that has been active this month and discussing the likelihood of dropping Windows XP support with GNOME 3.18 so that developers can move on with new functionality and have one less platform to worry about supporting.
However, not everyone is excited about the look at no modern GTK+ support for XP. While the upstream developers are for dropping XP, there's still industrial users out there running Windows XP that would desire continued support. The response to them though is with running an outdated operating system, they should lock the version of GNOME components they're using to avoid any support issues.
In other GTK+ news, GTK 3.16.1 was released and it fixes many bugs along with improving client-side decorations support when running without a compositor.
