Following the weekly Fedora Engineering and Steering Committee meeting, another large batch of Fedora 20 features were approved. This includes a ruling on the controversial syslog migration to systemd's journal, upgrading the desktop environments, and other proposed work for the F20 development cycle.

There's already been a number of approved features for this next Fedora Linux release, but the list was made even longer now by FESCo. Changes approved at this week's meeting include:

- Installing documentation to unversioned document directories.

- Making the necessary changes so KDump will work on UEFI SecureBoot systems.

- Sendmail will be removed from Fedora @core while it will stay apart of the Fedora @standard group.

- Syslog is going to be removed from @core but will stay in @standard. So systemd's journald will become part of the core Fedora package group, but syslog will still be around at least for the time being.

- The Vagrant virtualization automation tool will be included in Fedora 20.

- The GNOME desktop stack will be upgraded to GNOME 3.10.

- DNSSEC support will be added to FreeIPA.

- A snapshot and rollback tool for thinly-provisioned LVM pools will be developed. This will also work for yum updates and eventually Fedora upgrades, this is in a similar manner to Btrfs snapshots/rollbacks.

- Transitive trusts with Active Directory support for FreeIPA.

- OS installation support for LVM Thin Provisioning.

- Enlightenment E17 packages should finally become available on Fedora Linux.

- Apache OpenOffice will become an option on Fedora 20 but LibreOffice will remain the default open-source office suite. LibreOffice packages also don't need to make any changes to accomodate OpenOffice.

- X2Go will be packaged for Fedora.

- Sugar 0.100 / 1.0 will be packaged for Fedora 20.

- SSSD Smart Card support will be added.

- ACPICA Tools will be updated.

- A GUI assistant for the devassistant package will be developed.

- Role-based access control with libvirt will be tackled.

- An SSSD CIFS plug-in will be added.

- A FreeIPA OTP user-interface will be added.

- The Ryu Network Operating System will be packaged for Fedora 20.

- The current network applet in KDE will be replaced by the latest KDE NetworkManager code and Plasma-NM.

More details on these features/changes can be found from the Fedora Project Wiki. Fedora 20 is expected for release around November of this year.
