Ubuntu Touch OTA-16 Released As The Second Largest Release Ever
UBports released Ubuntu Touch OTA-16 as their largest update since the days of OTA-4 when the transition happened from an Ubuntu 15.04 base to 16.04 LTS.
Ubuntu Touch OTA-16 is a big boy with many updates albeit not the elusive update shifting from Ubuntu 16.04 to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. Ubuntu Touch is still working towards that big migration but they aren't there yet.
With Ubuntu Touch OTA-16 they shifted from Qt 5.9 to 5.12.9 LTS as their base toolkit, which represents much of their work this cycle. Shifting to Qt 5.12 LTS was also necessary as part of the eventual Ubuntu 20.04 migration.
Ubuntu Touch OTA-16 also adds support for the aging Samsung Galaxy S3 Neo+ smartphone with Snapdragon 400 SoC, continues to improve the Morph web browser, newer GStreamer support, Anbox installers are now included by default, and many smartphone/device-specific fixes.
Work on Ubuntu Touch OTA-17 has already started albeit won't be the release shifting to Ubuntu 20.04. Devices supported by OTA-16, the list of changes in full, and downloads for Ubuntu Touch that continues to be maintained by the UBports community can be found via UBports.com.
