Today -- on Linux's 25th birthday -- marks the release of Ubuntu 16.10 Beta 1 for opt-in flavors participating in this "Yakkety Yak" milestone.

Participating in today's Ubuntu 16.10 Beta 1 release are Lubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME, Ubuntu Kylin, Ubuntu MATE, and Ubuntu Studio.

Lubuntu 16.10 Beta 1 continues to use LXDE rather than LXQt.

Ubuntu GNOME is now shipping with GNOME 3.20 while select applications have been updated against GNOME 3.22 Beta. There's also an experimental Wayland session available for Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 Beta 1.
