System76 Releases COSMIC Alpha 2 Desktop Packages

Following the release of the COSMIC Alpha desktop in early August, System76 is closing out September by issuing the second alpha release of their Rust-based open-source desktop environment.

COSMIC Alpha 2 is now available for their in-house Pop!_OS Linux distribution as well as having packages available for other Linux distributions like Fedora, NixOS, Arch, openSUSE, Serpent OS, and CachyOS. The Rust-based Redox OS also has COSMIC apps packaged.

The COSMIC Alpha 2 release brings new options to COSMIC Settings are power and battery life management, new sound input/output device settings, new wired and wireless network options, new window management features, and a variety of bug fixes. The COSMIC Files file manager has also seen a number of refinements as has the COSMIC Store's load time on initial start, applet enhancements, and other revisions.
