LINUX KERNEL
For some non-X non-graphics news today, the Linux 3.1-rc6 kernel was released on Wednesday by Linus Torvalds.

The Linux 3.1-rc6 kernel comes slightly late (compared to the usual precision weekly releases by Linus for RCs), but that's because his email had been bouncing.

This sixth test release for the Linux 3.1 kernel contains ARM and OpenRISC architecture updates, Nouveau DRM fixes, Btrfs file-system updates, and other work. Overall it's been a quite time for development on the Linux 3.1 kernel.

Besides Linus having email problems, the Kernel.org infrastructure is still kaput following an attack last month. With Kernel.org not being ready, the Linux 3.1 kernel is still being housed on GitHub until services are fully restored.

On LKML.org is the 3.1-rc6 release announcement.

Now it's time for me to board a plan and head on over to Oktoberfest 2011 in Munich. There's a queue of featured articles ready that will go through the month of October, but I'll still be around posting news on a daily basis and any other interesting bits of information I learn from my sources, colleagues, and others during Phoronix meet-ups in the Augustiner tent.
