Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Adds Support For Local Menus

A new feature added to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" is the Unity desktop finally adding back support for locally integrated menus.

Locally integrated menus are a user option for showing the menu at the top of the application's own window area rather than at the top of the screen within Unity's global menu. This option can be set by the user through the Ubuntu System Settings. Local menus still won't be displayed all the time but will require a mouse-over, but after two years of waiting it's great to finally have this feature for those that don't like Unity's approach to application menus. Locally integrated menus will be tweaked based upon user feedback prior to this next Ubuntu Linux release in April.

As more last-minute work this week prior to the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS feature freeze, dynamic HiDPI support has also landed in Unity with the latest packages. More details on this latest Unity 7 work for Unity 14.04 can be found by this blog post.
