Nouveau X.Org Driver Finally Releases Version 1.0
After being in development for many years, the xf86-video-nouveau X.Org DDX driver finally saw its first release and it is version 1.0.
The xf86-video-nouveau 1.0.0 driver was unexpectedly tagged on Sunday by Ben Skeggs of Red Hat Australia. The commit was made in Git and then a package of the xf86-video-nouveau 1.0.0 source-code then uploaded to nouveau.freedesktop.org.
This is the first Nouveau driver in released form with users and distribution vendors up to this point having had to just pull from Git for the latest code.
This release comes after the Nouveau driver recently left the kernel's staging area and the Nouveau driver API is finally exposed by default within the DRM library (libdrm).
By good chance, this morning I happened to have posted Nouveau vs. NVIDIA blob Linux benchmarks.
