Benchmarks Of Fedora 9 Through 11

When it comes to computational biology, a timed HMMer search of a Pfam database took the same amount of time across all four versions of Fedora.

The disk write performance has improved quite a bit with Fedora 11. The latency as measured by the Threaded I/O Tester had dropped between Fedora 10 and 11 so that it was nearly twice as fast with 64MB writes at 32 threads. However, with Fedora Rawhide this has regressed some, though it may be attributed to debugging options and other development work actively going on within Rawhide.

While the disk write performance improved in Fedora 11, with the disk read performance it actually regressed in Fedora 11. The latency was over twice as high in Fedora 11 with 32 threads of 64MB reads, but with Fedora Rawhide and the Linux 2.6.30 kernel it looks like this is starting to be corrected.
