Benchmarks Of Fedora 9 Through 11
Moving onto other areas, the Parallel BZIP2 Compression performance seems to be slowly increasing with each new release. Fedora 10 took about 5% longer than Fedora 9 to compress the 2GB sample file using PBZIP2, Fedora 11 was slightly faster than Fedora 10 but still behind of Fedora 9's numbers, and Fedora Rawhide required about 7% more time than Fedora 11. However, when running phoronix-test-suite analyze-all-runs on these test results, the differences ended up being statistically insignificant.
The performance of Fedora Rawhide in the Apache Benchmarking using ab to test the static web page serving performance, it basically dropped off a cliff. Fedora 10 and 11 were slightly slower than Fedora 9 when it came to the requests per second that could be sustained, but with Fedora Rawhide there was a very sharp drop. However, we will be sure to run more benchmarks as Fedora 12 matures and others can easily do so by installing the Phoronix Test Suite and simply typing phoronix-test-suite benchmark apache to replicate this setup in a fully automated manner.
There are no major performance changes to be spotted with the LAME MP3 encoding performance.
